1891 $2 Silver Certificate with friedberg 246 “Windom”, signatures of Tillman and Morgan displaying serial number E16593440. Plate number D44.

A highly desirable example of this scarce and popular series, Graded 66 with PPQ (premium paper quality) by PCGS. Only 57 graded by PCGS.

Fantastic high grade note! Bullseye centering, bright paper deeply embossed and bold color. Very bright and original. A portrait of William Windom, Secretary of the Treasury 1881 - 1884 and 1889 - 1891, is centered on the obverse.

He was appointed to the post of Secretary of Treasury by President Garfield and served from 1889 until his death in 1891. In this position, he devised a plan for the government to purchase silver (at a slightly inflated price), better known as the Sherman Silver Act of 1890.
