 Only 101 proofs of the 1908 were struck, and while it is the most frequently encountered date among the eight issues in the proof series, it would be a gross miscalculation to call it a common issue.The coin displays the typical matte (or “sandblast”) surfaces that have a mustard-gold color. This type of finish was not looked upon with favor by numismatists at the time of issue because of its overall “dull” appearance. However, most present-day collectors, of course, find it very attractive and appealing. Always in demand, any matte proof Saint is an important coin. |
